Waging Love: Building an Environmentally Just Detroit From summer floods to widespread power outages, all Detroiters are impacted by the escalating climate crisis and unjust environmental policies facing our city. This community panel will bring together an intergenerational coalition of organizers from Detroit’s environmental & climate justice movements dedicated to amplifying the solutions we need to ensure safety and equity for all. Rooting in Detroit activist and water warrior Charity Mahouna Hicks’ call to “wage love,” we’ll share fellowship, strategies, healing, and visions for an environmentally just Detroit.

The 13th Annual All Cancer Symposium

The 13th Annual All Cancer Symposium Join the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute at the 13th Annual All Cancer Symposium. This conference is free and you may attend virtually or in person at the Motor City Casino Hotel Conference Center. This year’s symposium, titled “The Cancer Patient’s Journey: What You Need to Know,” features presentations from multiple oncologists and specialists throughout the Karmanos Cancer Network, covering the different types of treatments and the process of determining treatment options for cancer patients. In-person seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to those attending in person. Register at karmanos.org/cancersymposium.

Amanda Alexander: Building Our Communities’ Freedom Dreams Amanda Alexander, founding executive director of the Detroit Justice Center, is a racial justice lawyer and historian who works alongside community-based movements to end mass incarceration and build thriving and inclusive cities. She is co-host of Freedom Dreams, an interview podcast that amplifies movement voices and explores the many paths to building a truly just future. Originally from Michigan, Amanda has worked at the intersection of racial justice and community development in Detroit, New York, and South Africa for more than two decades.
