Message for U S Citizens: Countrywide Lockdown and U S Embassy Suspension of Routine Consular Services

Location:  Lebanon The Lebanese government has announced that it will impose a countrywide lockdown to combat the spread of coronavirus in Lebanon beginning Thursday, January 7, 2021 through Monday, February 1.  The lockdown will require the closures of most public institutions and facilities, and many private businesses and enterprises.  The lockdown allows certain exceptions to the closures, including entities that provide for security, public safety and health, and for businesses involved in food production and sale.  There will be a daily curfew from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.  Movement of personal and public vehicles on roadways will be restricted.  Rafic Hariri International Airport will remain open, operating at a reduced capacity.  All air travelers arriving in Beirut will be required to undergo PCR testing.  Full details of the lockdown are pending; please consult the U.S. Embassy’s COVID-19 information page for the latest news.
