COMECE launches appeal for Lebanon
The Commission of the Bishops Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) is appealing to the European Union to support the people of Lebanon who are facing a political and economic crisis.

Support the Lebanese people in crisis: That was the appeal launched by the Commission of the Bishops Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) to the European Union on Wednesday, as the country struggles to maintain its identity and social fabric in the face of the current multifaceted crisis .
COMECE s appeal to the EU comes after the Lebanese Church voiced its fears in a letter sent to EU Bishops.

All Lebanese politicians have failed to reach a solution or even take initiative to resolve the crisis in the country.
Lebanon suffers from poverty, inflation, rising commodity prices, a shortage of electricity and fuel – not to mention an ongoing political crisis that has led to a hostile takeover of Lebanon by Hezbollah and Iran. The huge warehouse explosion at the Beirut Port in August of 2020, for a short time made world headlines and briefly brought a spotlight on the country’s many woes.
This past Saturday the head of the Lebanese Church, Bechara Boutros Rai, 81, the Maronite Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, addressed a crowd where he lives in Bkerké. Hundreds of his supporters gathered there and heard his speech. He proposed steps for solving Lebanon’s problems in a moving speech from his office window. His initiative was broadcast live to millions of Lebanese in Lebanon and abroad.
