Sean Michael York – Springerton

Sean Michael York, 36, of Springerton, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 in White County, Illinois. He was born on October 26, 1985 in Mt. Vernon, IL the son of Michael Ray York and Lucy Jill Rendleman. He married Emily Joy Hodge on August 23, 2014. Sean was the co-owner and manager of York Farms, Inc. along with his brother Wesley. In the offseason, he was a Wilderness Therapist in Northern Wisconsin and Alaska. He was also a licensed real estate agent and land specialist. He was a graduate of Hamilton County High School, Class of 2004. He graduated Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Outdoor Recreation. He served as the secretary for the Beaver Creek Township Board, a certified Wilderness First Responder and Leave No Trace Master Educator. Sean was passionate about all things involving nature. He loved hiking, backpacking, hunting, mountain climbing, aviation, traveling, wood working, playing music and spending time with his beloved wif

Free Leave No Trace workshop at Horn Field Campus Feb. 20 Canton Daily Ledger MACOMB Western Illinois University s Horn Field Campus will host a free Leave No Trace awareness workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. The workshop will introduce the seven principles of Leave No Trace, the cover, low-impact recreational techniques used to be better stewards of the environment. Participants will receive a certificate for successful completion, which is acknowledged by the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Registration is open to the public; masks are required; and CDC guidelines will be followed. The workshop is being taught by WIU graduate student Kassey Trahanas, Mobile, Alabama, who spent several years as an environmental educator, including three years as an eco-tour guide for AmeriCorps and local environmental agencies in costal Alabama. She recently became a Leave No Trace Master Educator.

Hiking The New Hampshire Triple Crown New Hampshire is a great place to hike with thousands of miles of hiking trails and large tracts of wilderness to explore. While a lot of hikers flock to the White Mountain National Forest to climb the 48 four thousand footers and hike the elaborate White Mountain Trail system, there are many more trails and mountains across the state to slake your thirst for new trails and vistas. But the three hardest lists and the ones that subsume most other lists are: The Grid The New Hampshire 500 Highest The Grid involves hiking all 48 of the White Mountain 4000 footers in every month of the year, for a total of 576 peaks. You don’t have to hike them all in one year and you can climb multiple peaks in a day. This the most popular of these three lists and so far 105 people have finished it, some multiple times. Bushwhacking Eagle Cliff and Downing Mountain Eagle Cliff and Downing Mountain are two New Hampshire 500 Highest peaks located near Stinson Lake outside of Rumney, NH. They’re in a section of the White Mountain National Forest that doesn’t have many maintained trails, so they’re seldom visited. Snowmobiling is popular in this area, however, and there is a well developed and maintained trail network that hikers and mountain bikers can access if they wish to explore the area. Since these two peaks are largely within the National Forest, there aren’t any public access issues, provided you respect the homeowners and property owners abutting the area.Eagle Cliff and Downing Mountain
