South Euclid begins second phase of gift card program to help those impacted by pandemic Jeff Piorkowski, cleveland.com SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio The city is rolling out a second phase of a program it first conducted last May in which it is giving to residents in need gift cards to help them through the pandemic. Last spring and summer, with the help of community development corporation One South Euclid, the city distributed to eligible residents a total of $4,000 in Giant Eagle gift cards. This year, Community Services Director Keith Benjamin said, $5,000 worth of gift cards will be given using a portion of what the city received in federal CARES Act money. The cards will come in $50 and $100 increments and can be used at participating grocery stores.

Kali Douglass says her mother originally asked her to help out with her younger sister s online learning, and after a few weeks, enough people reached out to give Douglass the idea to expand. She rents out space at Franklin Jr. High School for her program, The Learning Pod, which offers socially distanced pods where students taking online classes can receive assistance on various subjects. Douglas says The Learning Pod has room for five more students, and she d like to see those spots to be used in a way that could financially assist someone.
