As a health care provider I am very concerned about the current efforts to weaken North Dakota’s smoke-free law, which protects our citizens from secondhand smoke.
The state Senate is considering a bill (HB 1152) that would exempt cigar lounges and bars that sell cigars from statewide smoke-free law. This issue can be seen in a number of different lights and perspectives, but at the top should be the health of the hard-working North Dakota citizen. I once met a former worker who worked most of their life during a time when smoking was allowed in these establishments. That person was on their third battle with lung cancer.
