Opelika Board of Education pays out $320K in lawsuit settlement with former special education teacher

The Opelika City Schools Board of Education agreed Monday to pay $320,000 to settle a lawsuit with former Jeter Primary School Special Education Teacher Meagan Norris, who said she was terminated in retaliation for advocating for one of her special education students.  The board, in a public statement, said it has determined that its employees behaved appropriately at all times. The board statement continued: Settling a case is always a difficult decision, but the board, on advice of its attorneys, agreed it was better to settle now rather than expend more time and money on complex and uncertain litigation. Our district and districts across the country are facing extraordinary challenges and we have made this choice so that we can continue our focus on the needs of the students and families in Opelika.”
