Bryant Elementary School first grader Blake Kaspar walked next to the chain, looking for his contribution. The 7-year-old decorated half a dozen links with smiley faces, hearts and rainbows.
“They show love and respect,” he said. “It reminds people to care about one another.”
Sixth graders Gabby Rusk and Lexi Kaspar walked with Blake. For them, the chain brought back memories of a similar class project when they were third graders at Bryant. The two aren’t sure what words of kindness they penned, but it made an impact they remember to this day.

What’s black and blue with a pop of red? Superior Middle School’s new logo.
The design, featuring a youthful Spartan surrounded by circles of red and black, was created by seventh grader Lila Gucinski. She unveiled a sign of the new logo in the middle school office Wednesday, Feb. 10.
“I’d do it. I’d race my friends,” he said.
SMS counselor Maryann Bonneville, family engagement coordinator LeAnn Egnash and principal David Jensen have been working on the project since February.
“Studies show that kids who are active and kids who get physical activity throughout their day are better learners,” Bonneville said. “They can focus more and they can learn better.”
Spartan Wellness Way joins a growing number of sensory paths in the area. Both Bryant and Northwestern elementary schools installed sensory paths in 2019. Such paths offer benefits for older students, as well.
“Any kid, even adults would benefit from the activities,” Bonneville said.
