support i supporting kevin mccarthy, and one of the people there did tell me that he could support paul ryan, and that is one example of why he is under pressure to run. but he has not said anything to us, but he said he is going home the talk to his family. and manu, he has repeatedly said that he is not wanting the job, and he se a young m nd nd years ole and he does not see himself in the house of representatives forever, and what are you hearing? that is it, wolf. this is a man with many opportunities to move up the leadership ladder and several times in his career where he could have run for the speaker or the other leadership posts, and he said no. in 2012 he was recruited to run for the open senate seat in wiscons wisconsin, and he has said no. he h resisted on many, many occasion, and largely, because he views himself as a policy man who wants to get major policy accomplishments where the speaker job is more of the
votes later at noon. what s going to happen at noon is a secret ballot. then to get the nomination, which is effectively what this is, the nomination for speaker from the house republicans, it s got to be 125 yeses. and then, you know, if that doesn t happen, there could be multiple ballots but, again, mccarthy insists he feels comfortable, he will get that in the first round, ana. really, the key here, though, is not just today s vote. when we look ahead in a few weeks, when the entire house votes, it s not slirly clear it seems that mccarthy s going to win that. that s exactly right. what we re going to see october 29th is the actual vote for house speaker because the here on capitol hill, almost all the leadership posts are done by the party. once the party nominates them, that s it. the speaker of the house is different. it s a constitutional position. the entire house of representatives has to approve, the majority has to approve the
key leadership posts. let s bring in manu live for us. what s the reason for the delay now? the delay is for the lower ticket leadership races. that s for majority leader, that s for majority whip and other leadership posts. the reason for that is there s a growing unrest within the republican conference, particularly some elements, the more conservative elements, simply promote the existing leadership team to the next highest spot. people believe after the john boehner resignation announcement, there s a real desire for new blood in the leadership. a new direction. but the real problem for some of those folks on the conservative side in the republican conference is that they really lack candidates who have enough votes to send to those higher leadership positions. yesterday i had a chance to speak with one of those people on the right, jason chaffetz, who s challenging kevin mccarthy
they stick together decided not to endorse anyone at the moment. we re seeing mccarthy and people vying for other leadership posts to begin that courtship and sell a lot of the conservatives, other members of the house, republican conference, on how they envision republicans could advance their agenda. today, the beginning of that process. what do rank and file republicans want the new leadership team to do? depends which pockets of rank and file republicans we re talking about. if we re talking about those conservative groups, house freedom caucus they want a big say in leadership table, they want the opportunity to be involved in a lot of the strategy decisions and decision making processes. kevin mccarthy has not yet met with the group but plans to, probably later there is week i m told. there are more moderate segments of the republican conference. one member leading member, charlie dent of pennsylvania, told a few of us outside earlier meeting today that what he expects next l
here s what his attorney tells us. he s 20 years old, a double major. holds leadership posts. it s st. patrick s day and johnson is going to a bar. he s not allowed in the bar. now brianna, it s important to know his attorney said he was not allowed in but not because of a fake idea. was it his face issue, a capacity issue? one of those gaps in information. we don t know exactly what happened but his attorney made it clear, not because he was presenting a fake id. these agents then approached and tried to arrest. and then there s the gap of information we were talking about and then we see the video. and these bloody pictures that you see here. they re very powerful very stark. but we don t have all of the information and then we have the video of johnson being pinned to the ground. he s bloody. saying racist racist to the cops and the cops are saying stop fighting stop fighting.
