administration s immigration policy. before we begin bussing up to new york, it was just texas and arizona that bore the brunt of all of the chaos and all the problems that come with it. now the rest of america is understanding exactly what is going on. in the last two weeks texas has sent roughly 1,000 migrants to new york and since april they ve sent 7,000 migrants to washington, d.c., where the mayor has asked for help from the national guard. joining me now is the former acting secretary of homeland security under president trump chad wolfe. thank you for being with us. what do you think of this policy? do you agree with what the governor of texas is doing, loading them on buses and just dropping them off in new york and washington without much of a plan in terms of dealing with those municipalities? they re just handing them over. this is what dhs has been doing for 17 months. they re sending them into communities all over the country whether it s in new york, it s
the answer is pretty basic and, again, i m going back to the history. this is not just my opinion. the history i ve had of following extremism. if you have leadership that takes air out of the room, people will feel increasingly embarrassed publicly on things like facebook or in a meeting to publicly talk about extremism that leads to violence. things like going after the fbi if you pull the air out of the room, and that is leadership saying it s wrong and you should be charged. people will talk about it less. conversely, when leadership says that negative commentary including violence about the fbi is appropriate, people will start to react and simmer. this is a leadership problem. if leadership speaks, we will take the air out of the room and you will see less extremism in the country. it s the way i ve watched extremism for 30 years. leadership counts. it absolutely does. phil mudd, great to talk to you as always. thank you very much. coming up, an update on the little league
people are how are they processing this video and thinking it s somebody else? leadership. statistic simple question is leadership. you remember after 9/11 there s a lot of anti-muslim and anti-immigrant sentiment. it was a republican leader george bush that kept a lid on it. don t believe this stuff, we re americans, that s part of the fabric of america. that s immigration. remember mccain versus president obama, all this stuff about president obama as being a kenyan, a closet muslim. the republican party said we don t this conspiracy stuff. in a lot of ways the republican party has flipped, and to ensure they win the base, conspiracies that would have died in the past are kept alive. leadership counts. if leadership persists with the message, people are going to believe it, jim. brian, marjorie taylor greene
level could actually believe this. it s even worse when you think about it if they know that some of their constituents will believe it so they traffic in these kind of conspiracy theories. that s just awful. phil, how dangerous is this? i mean, if you look at the past five years and even the months after january 6th, people believe this stuff. people believe it. the message is and the republicans have given out the message that leadership counts to counter this. let me give you two examples. john mccain and the stories about barack obama being from kenya. george bush told us as a republican we will not believe this. republican leaders must speak about one four letter word, fact and another four letter word, lies. we need to know the difference, wolf. coming up, now that the u.s.
and syria, the group has returned to guerrilla warfare roots while continuing to plot attacks and direct its supporters worldwide. isis is intent on resurging and still commands thousands of fighters in iraq and syria. brett mcgirk, who was donald trump s envoy to fight isis, reiterated the danger of withdrawal on face the nation when he explained why this decision by the president caused him to resign as well. i ve been part of this campaign four years across two administrations. american leadership counts. leadership built this coalition. it led to these games against isis and leadership requires some presence on the ground and consistency. it was a total reversal of our policy, i concluded i could not be effective in carrying out those new instructions. fast forward today to when the president spoke to the global collision on the defeat of isis and said a formal announcement will come next week that we have 100% of the caliphate. joining our conversation, former deputy secur
