given. laura: after biological ja note i can male lea thomas became an ncaa champ his ucla teammates were being silenced behind the scenes and were afraid to speak out. there were a lot of things talking about, like the locker room situation if you brought it up you were transphobic. if you even brought up the fact that lea swimming might not be fair you were shut down as a fateful person. laura: that teammate you saw in a silhouette was paula scanlon and she s not scared anymore. in her first interview, paula, what s changed between then and now. why are you ready to publicly discuss this issue? i think one of the biggest things for me is just seeing how much this has changed in the last year. right? i thought maybe this won t continue to happen in other sports, maybe the swimming is the exception and i ve seen this
blow up. there s cases of the track people in california. there s cycling. skateboarding. every single women s sport imaginable has been infiltrated by biological males competing on the women s team and i decided that, you know, it s okay if i get some hate and i shouldn t be scared anymore because i need to use my voice and encourage other women to speak out against unfair competition. . laura: paula as a former college athlete i applaud you and everything you re doing. i want to get your reaction to what lea thomas said on a podcast just a few weeks back. watch this. they re like, oh, we respect you as a trans woman, whatever, we respect your identity. you just don t think it s fair. you can t have that half support using the guise of feminism to sort of push transphobic beliefs. laura: paula are you using feminism just to hide your fact that you and all your teammates
