The Ole Miss rifle team capped off its historic season this weekend with a third place finish in the NCAA Championship, hosted in Columbus, Ohio. After all the Rebels have accomplished this season, the women weren’t quite finished and brought home a lot of hardware.
The Rebels had not been to the championship since 2006, and it was only their second time in history to compete in the tournament. After a weekend of strong competition that featured top competitors from around the country, the Rebels placed third in air rifle, smallbore and overall as a team. The Rebels had a final overall score of 4,710, which is the highest the team has scored in the program’s history.
Kentucky wins the 2021 NCAA rifle team championship
As the 2021 college rifle championships come to a close, Kentucky has won the 2021 NCAA rifle championship. The Wildcats edged 2019 champion TCU 4,731 to 4,722 in this year s overall team scoring.

The Horned Frogs won the air rifle team competition with 2,380 points in addition to a second place finish overall. Kentucky won the smallbore team competition on Day 1 of this year s championships.
In the final event of the 2021 championships, Kentucky s Mary Tucker topped teammate Will Shaner for the individual air rifle championship. Tucker scored 249.4 points to Shaner s 248.7. Mississippi s Lea Horvath placed third with 228 points.

No Mississippi team has ever won a Division I championship in any sport, but the Ole Miss rifle team is currently positioned to be the team that could change Ole Miss Athletics history. Earlier this month, the all-women rifle team earned a spot in the NCAA Championships for the first time in 15 years, and this week, the team is headed to Ohio to compete.
The Rebels rank No. 2 nationally in NCAA rankings and currently hold an 11-1 overall record.
After the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championship, eight members of the team earned a total of 16 honors, breaking the program’s record and earning the second-most among the nine members of the conference.
