because i think, you know, it was an uphill battle. i think everyone knew that that supreme court with this conservative majority will probably likely strike the planned down. they were quickly out of the box with this new proposal that they could maybe try to do something under different federal law to the one they tried to use. this one is called the higher education act. but the trouble with this one is that it s gonna take a lot longer to push it out. it s gonna have to be a full, kind of, wanting some comment and review what they do before it goes into effect, which is one of the reasons they didn t do it before. and president biden has voiced, filled temporary measures that would relieve, when people start to pay those student loans which is gonna happen next couple of months after it was put on hold during that pandemic. we are definitely trying, and they are ready to announce this. but it s gonna take a while. and it s gonna be probably legal challenges to that too. nbc s law
secretary miguel cardona to quote, compromise waves or release loans under certain circumstances. nbc news supreme court reporter lawrence hurly joins me now. lawrence, good morning, thank you for starting off the show with us. what did these three major decisions mean for everyday americans? i think what is clear is that again, the supreme court with his conservative majority is showing that it s willing to use this power and that it can really influence peoples daily lives, and it did so with these cases. i think it s fair to say that the immediate impact is probably felt most in the lone case, because that s one where more than 14 million americans were eligible for this program, and half of those would ve had their student don t loan debt eliminated had this gone through. so for those people as an immediate impact and also a student loan repayments due to start again soon after being paused during the pandemic,
