duty doctor, thank you for coming. i think it s important to make clear off the bat, that even if congress and the incoming murngs were to do nothing, absolutely nothing, amending or repealing parts of the affordable care act, the law is not working. it s collapsing, the prices are unaffordable, the market is nearly nonexistent. few options to several states and counties this year. one out of every thr counties in this country only has one insurer offering coverage on the exchange. what tools do you have or will you have, when you re confirmed, which could be utilized over the next couple of months to provide stability and improve the individual insurance markets, make them more appealing so that insurance carriers will want to come back and provide more coverage options, as we transition away from the affordable health care act? thank you, senator. i think it s incredibly important for us to admit here what the american people know, and that that is, that this law
elections. he said democrats should forcefully defend and embrace the law. i don t think we should apologize for it or be defensive about it. i think there is a strong good life story to tell. reporter: he cite sized the dozens of states that didn t accept and expand medicaid, and those states say they simply couldn t afford it. bill: there are a number of critics who say the numbers don t tell the whole story. we have conscious at republican who say the law isn t working. we also heard from state insurance commissioners who said what about the 6 million americans who received cancellation notices in the mail because their plans didn t comply with the affordable care snact and commissioners say they remain sceptical about the young folks who the president said signed up. we don t know how many of those who signed up paid the
republican challenger. does it suggest it s not as effective as they d like it to be? they still have it as a central theme for elections. there are four democrats facing tough reelection battles where the law remains deeply unpopular. the biggest problem for republicans is they haven t produced a replacement plan of their own. and they keep on running on full repeal. when you contrast that with the fact that 7.5 million americans have signed up for private plans under obamacare exchanges and more than 3 million have enrolled in the medicaid extension, it becomes a tougher sell for republicans to keep on pushing for repeal. because without a replacement, without an alternative, the republicans are effectively arguing in favor of taking benefits of upwards of 10 million people. i think that democrats will press them on that issue. it won t be enough for republicans to say that the law isn t working and it has to be repealed.
