This was following a Petition filed by a Lawyer which said that confidential access has been denied to Mr. Hizbullahs lawyers since the date of his arrest.  The Court of Appeal made order that two lawyers to be permitted to visit Mr. Hizbullah and obtain instructions from him after the Attorney General conceded to the right of Hizbullah and his Lawyers to meet. .

Wednesday, 16 December 2020 00:15 -     Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah The Attorney General yesterday informed the Court of Appeal that confidential access to meet and consult detained Attorney at Law Hejaaz Hizbullah would be granted to his lawyers. This was following a Petition filed by a lawyer which said that confidential access had been denied to Hizbullah’s lawyers since the date of his arrest.  The Court of Appeal made order that two lawyers be permitted to visit Hizbullah and obtain instructions from him after the Attorney General conceded to the right of Hizbullah and his lawyers to meet. Earlier, lawyers of Hizbullah detailed how officers of the Criminal Investigations Department sat in on the consultations and took down notes during the meetings. The lawyers said that they were denied even that very limited access since 12 September.

Judge recuses from considering Hejaaz Hizbullah petition Judge recuses from considering Hejaaz Hizbullah petition Written by Share: Colombo (News 1st); Court of Appeal Judge Arjuna Obeyesekere recused himself from the bench which was considering the application filed by Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah. Attorney-at-Law Hejaaz Hizbullah is being detained by the Criminal Investigations Department and is charged with aiding extremist elements. When the matter was called up in the presence of Justices Arjuna Obeyesekere and Sobitha Rajakaruna of the court of appeal, Justice Obeyesekere said he would recuse himself from considering the petition, based on personal reasons. The matter of taking up the petition for consideration was postponed to the 14th of December.
