we ve had presidents who have been subpoenaed before. thomas jefferson was subpoenaed very famously in the early 1800s. richard nixon was subpoenaed for the tapes and watergate. bill clinton was subpoenaed for his testimony as well. it s not unprecedented to have a law enforcement investigator take this step, but it s a big step. the abc news reporting is that the prosecutors have been trying to negotiate with pence for months to testify. my guess is pence did what he s been doing for the last two years, talk out of both sides of his mouth. you know, send his aides to say some things but not say much himself and jack smith called his bluff and said, you know, we need to get to the bottom of this. thank heavens for jack smith. i thought it was unforgivable that the january 6th committee which did such a great job but just let pence skate and just had testimony from his aides. pence is kind of like the
hour. again, looking at the shooting that we re reporting on now in the u.s. state of virginia, this occurred just before closing time, where you would not typically have many casualties. and so, that tells me, as a former law enforcement investigator, this appears to be very personal. this reporting that we have. this is a former employee or perhaps a current employee that went into a break room. so, as you think about a store that is laid out, you know, anywhere in the world, you have the section of the store where customers are, they are buying items, they are checking out, there is our departing. but there is also a separate area where employees are. were they how they break room. which, as they are on, if they have their downtime. it appears as if though the shooting took place in this particular area. so, again, we are waiting for additional information from law enforcement. but this appears to be, according to our reporting, someone who knew the layout of the store, knew where t
very large building with potentially a lot of people still in it. cnn s brian todd talking to me last hour. and joining us now on the line is cnn security correspondent josh campbell. good to have you with us again, josh. so another mass shooting in america, this time at a walmart in chesapeake, virginia. police have confirmed the shooter is deceased, but can t confirm the number of fatalities or injuries. but we are learning from a law enforcement source that this shooter was a former or perhaps current employee who entered the break room and opened fire. so what does this indicate to you given your background as a former law enforcement investigator? rosemary, two things i m looking at are the location of the shooting. we re told this took place inside a break room inside the store. and for anyone watching and listening right now, you know walmart. this is a megastore. they have some 10,000 stores around the world in some 24
not something you recommend that your client do? i wouldn trecommend she do that, no. if it s just a matter of her disclosing information to them, that would be one thing. but if they re intending to have grilling from the senators or grilling from some other individual, that kind of cross-examination cannot be a replacement for a meaningful investigation. as you know, senator grassley has again raised the idea that talking to the new yorker you can lie to reporters, talking to senate investigators is under oath. the implication obviously being that your client doesn t want to talk to investigators because it s under oath. well, that s belied by the fact that she has stated very publicly that she s willing to be investigated and actually tell her information to the fbi, which is also something that is punishable by the penalty of perjury. so an fbi individual, somebody who is a trained law enforcement investigator, somebody who
