the noises were heard by a canadian p-3. and that was this morning and some yesterday. reporter: the noise described as banging sounds at regular intervals in the department and homeland security briefing are now described as less specific than that. but still, the focus of the search. we need to have hope, right? i can t tell you what the noises are. what i can tell you, and i think this is the most important point. we re searching where the noises are. reporter: the sounds picked up by buoys like this one dropped from planes. and then listening for any sounds of life from the titan submersible. this team has multiple sensors. they re in the area. they re sending data back expeditiously to the best in the world. reporter: it takes about a day for ships from st. john s, the closest land, to the titanic wreck site to arrive to the search area. it is enormous. two times the size of connecticut. a grid pattern presented by the coast guard indicates the size of the
suspect s vehicle. vicki and casey white fled, the pursuit ended with the crash you see there. the sheriff s office says vicki white sustained self-inflicted gun gunshot wounds. marshal, law enforcement saying the u.s. marshals task force intercepts the couple, actually collided with them to end the pursuit. can you talk about just how this search ended? yes, we developed information these suspects were in the area, and they were possibly staying at a local hotel. surveillance was establish on that facility. a short time later, vicki white came out of the hotel. she was wearing a wig. the two suspects got into a vehicle. the rolling surveillance continued. we asked for cystness and a short time lied later, there was a a chase, a vehicle chase and the suspect wrecked the car, rolled over. and we approached the vehicle to get the two suspect the out. we got casey white out. he immediately announced that his wife shot herself in the head and that he didn t do it. marshal,
they took it over. what they found, let s look at the document, it says, quote, the fbi went to work building family trees of the genetic relatives to the suspect, dna left at the crime scene, in an attempt to identify the contributor of the unknown dna. tools and methods used by members of the public who wished to learn more about their ancestors, that contained the name, birth date, and death rate of hundreds of relatives and they are talking about kohberger as well as their familial connections between each other and the suspect bryan c. kohberger, the fbi then sent local law enforcement a tip to investigate defendant. so according to this document they got that name bryan kohberger from the genetic geneology and went from there. jean caceres, thanks so much. appreciate it. the u.s. postal service is getting into good trouble tonight on capitol hill. i ll explain what that means next. first here is cnn s alex
