They reported on this story and it could should have caused demonstrations in our streets. We are losing our country and no one seems to notice. Less than 15 years ago, the u. S. Economy was three types the size of china. And americans since 1945 have grown used to having the number one economy and must have taken it for granted. about it. Our current president said running up the huge debt on children and dprand children was irresponsible and unpatriotic. If so, he is the least patriotic president in history. Our debt topped the 18 trillion mark. That is more than double than
in the senate we had a hearing on the judiciary committee earlier this week where the f.b.i. director, president trump s personally chosen f.b.i. director, repeated that same message. that we need to be working on securing our 2020 elections. tomorrow i ll be at the delaware state fair where i ll get to see our new election machinery in delaware. we were one of five states that had no paper trail to audit the outcomes of our elections. we ve just purchased new election machinery with the grant funding that was made available two years ago to states. i think that is something we should be working on. and i think that was one important takeaway from the mueller investigation was the depth and breadth of russian interference in our 2016 election. jon: guy louis a former federal prosecutor was on with us. in his view the special prosecutor law doesn t work. he called it a mix of prosecution and politics that just doesn t work. what do you think about that?
joe. joining us now, congressman steve scalise. good morning. thanks for being with us. good morning. glad to be with you. i want to ask you about the state of louisiana, some 30% of people under 65 in your state, sir, have a pre-existing condition. what do you say to them this morning? they have a fear, not only in new orleans, but across this country that they may no longer be covered if this bill becomes law. we have multiple layers of protection in our bill for people with pre-existing conditions. what i m hearing from my constituents, especially with pre-existing conditions, one, they re paying more than before obamacare. but the law doesn t work for them. they re utilizing the health care system more than most people. the massively high deductibles in obamacare, in some cases over $10,000 a year, are really what s creaming them. they re going to the doctor and they re paying everything out of
constituents that i hear from every day tell me about sky rocketing premiums. one mother in my district told me about a $11,000 deducts deductible that she has that makes it i believe possible for her to use her insurance. we ve seen doctors leaving the healthcare marketplace. we ve seen hospitals closing. we ve seen limited access to healthcare because the law doesn t work for families. so as we ve worked over the months to put together a bill, tomorrow we officially start the process of moving the bill through the committee. house energy and the ways and means committee will take up this legislation. president trump committed in our meeting that he s all in on making sure that this bill gets to his desk so he can sign it into law. that s really encouraging because over the last eight years, we ve seen a president that didn t want to work with congress and we ve seen the
it belongs. i ve heard reports of 10 million people could lose their coverage. does that matter to you? what matters is we re lowing the cost and giving the power back to the people. if we mandate everybody buys what we have to buy, the government estimates they ll buy it. that bogus. that doesn t work. the fact is that we re not going to have the government tell you what you must do. tell you what you must buy. we re going to allow the market to do that. people have to decide what they want to do with their lives. we want lower costs and more competition and equalizing it all.
