Karachi: Former students of the University of Karachi (KU)-based in the Washington DC and Baltimore area of the USA have donated a system to energise two of the key faculties of the university by solar power.
Sindh Law and Environment Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the 32.5 kilowatts grid-tied solar system installed on the KU campus to energise its Arts and Social Sciences faculties. The Washington DC and Baltimore chapter of Karachi University Alumni Association donated the renewable energy system comprising of 74 solar panels having cost around Rs 3.05 million. The system will help KU save 150 units of electricity daily.
Earlier, the same alumni association donated the solar system for the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology of the KU.

Karachi: The Sindh government has launched a toll-free helpline service ‘1121’ to provide emergency assistance to protect children in the province against any injustice or abuse.
This was disclosed by Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Murtaza Wahab as he inaugurated a shelter home for destitute children in Malir area of Karachi. The shelter home works under the aegis of Sindh Child Protection Authority and Sindh Government’s Social Welfare Department.
Wahab toured different wards of the shelter home, reviewed its facilities, and also interacted with the children there.
Sindh Law Adviser appealed to the people to use the toll-free helpline to report any incident of abuse or exploitation against the children.
Karachi: Sindh Law and Environment Adviser Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced to establish two scholarships out of his own pocket for the students of University of Karachi (KU) in remembrance of his late parents as being the alumni of the university.
Sindh Law and Environment Adviser made announcement to this effect while addressing an international conference at the Karachi University Business School (KUBS) as its chief guest. His late father Wahab Siddiqui was a prominent journalist while his late mother Fauzia Wahab was a senior leader of Pakistan Peoples’ Party.
“I always say Karachi University holds a special place in my heart because my both parents were alumni of the KU. I only heard fantastic things about the Karachi University as what a beautiful place the KU was,” said Barrister Wahab who also acts as the spokesman for the Sindh government.
