When Grant Wilson Suire was a kid he wanted to be president. Born on the Fourth of July and named after two American presidents, he seemed destined for the Oval Office.
Like other little kids, he thought being president would be cool. By middle school he was paying attention to the actual political process, especially as the 2016 election dominated.
By high school he d matured, noticing real problems that exist in the world, which only became more apparent in 2020 amid a global pandemic, another contentious election cycle and protests decrying inequality. My passion shifted from the electoral politics from the superficial, flashy side and started focusing more on solving the problems my generation is going to be facing, Suire said. If anyone can fix it, maybe I can; if not, at least I ll know that I tried.
