MU students protest social justice center restructuring

Updated at 1:45 p.m. to include details from a staff meeting about the reorganization. Coordinators at MU’s Department of Social Justice centers were told last week their positions would no longer exist as of July 1, part of what an administrator called a “restructuring” and “reimagining” of the department. The overhaul will see the department move away from individually functioning centers focused on providing specific resources to students to a “collective” and “community” focus. MU will conduct open searches to fill new positions in place of the currently existing coordinator roles. The physical resource center spaces will remain on campus.

Towing company voices concerns as winter weather causes hazardous road conditions

Local Columbia business Tiger Towing has responded to many calls this winter, including over the past week. According to the KOMU 8 First Alert weather team, mid-Missouri will receive 2 to 3 inches of snowfall, which will cause low visibility, covered roads and snowdrifts. The Missouri State Highway Patrol advised drivers on Monday morning to not go out on the roads due to extreme cold, high winds, and snow. Winter weather is in full swing here in Mid-mo and road conditions are not the best. Today I spoke with Tiger Towing on ways to stay safe and to avoid a scenario like this one. Here is a current update on the roads: @KOMUnewspic.twitter.com/Z8CV6zooRG Lauren Schwentker (@L SchwentkerTV) February 15, 2021
