Jessica DiGirolamo’s hat trick lifted Syracuse (4-8-1, 4-6-1 College Hockey America) to a 4-1 win on Friday in the first of three games against Lindenwood. The road victory marks the end of a two-game losing streak since SU beat RIT 3-0 on Feb. 3.
The Orange scored the most goals on Friday since their Dec. 12 win against Penn State, and they scored a first-period goal for the first time since the Penn State matchup, too.

Syracuse led an ordinary rush into the Mercyhurst zone with the game tied at one and less than 90 seconds to play. With the puck wrapped around the boards and the Orange ready to regroup in the offensive zone, the whistle blew, and Emma Polaski was headed to the penalty box on a questionable cross-checking call, where she fell onto Mercyhurst goaltender Ena Nystrøm and knocked her down into her own end.

When the puck finally bounced Syracuse’s way, Anna Leschyshyn fired it from the crease into the net for the game’s equalizing goal. After a review confirmed Emma Polaski didn’t interfere with the goalie, the bench erupted with cheers and, for the first time Saturday afternoon, the momentum shifted toward the Orange.
But 32 seconds was all it took for Syracuse’s hope to be extinguished. A defensive turnover deep in SU territory led to Robert Morris freshman Ellie Marcovsky forcing the puck past goalie Allison Small and into the net. The bench went quiet, stunned at how quickly SU’s lead dissipated.
