RHEA COUNTY — County and state fire crews spent the weekend battling a forest fire in the area of Pocket Wilderness and the Cumberland Trail that spread over 200 acres.
After years of being covered in ditches and pot holes, the road to the Laurel-Snow State Natural Area, or Pocket Wilderness, will soon be paved, according to Rhea County Executive
Tennessee now owns 130 acres of Rhea County mountain land that will preserve the viewshed of the Cumberland Trail near Laurel-Snow State Natural Area, according to the Land Trust for Tennessee.

RHEA COUNTY, Tenn.
UPDATE (May 22, 2021): The Rhea County Sheriff s Office said crews have recovered the body of a North Carolina man who disappeared in the Pocket Wilderness on May 10.
According to Detective Rocky Potter, search crews were able to recover Curtis Dustin Williams body on Saturday afternoon after they had widened their search, bringing in extra volunteers and rappel teams from several counties including Knox County.
