Laurel County Emergency Management works to prepare for snow and ice events long before the roads are snow-covered. Public Information Officer Magen Zawko says all the emergency operations in the county; police, fire, and beyond, closely monitor the situation and are always prepared for the worst-case scenario. For the London-Laurel Rescue Squad, that means fueling up vehicles, gas-powered tools, and generators. And, for every department, it means making sure plenty of manpower is on standby. Zawko also urges the public to take steps to be ready too, like having an emergency preparedness kit that includes water, canned goods and flashlight. She says its also a good idea to have an alternative heat source. She says either way their 24/7 emergency response is there to help.
