Improving Our Nation’s Infrastructure Enjoys Bipartisan Support Among the American People
In the first 100 days of the 117th Congress, Democrats enacted the American Rescue Plan, comprehensive legislation to provide immediate assistance to American families and small businesses struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With assistance from that law already going out the door, Democrats are also focused on building the economy back better. Last month, President Biden announced the American Jobs Plan, which follows through on Democrats’ promise to create jobs and build the economy of the future by rebuilding and strengthening America’s infrastructure. This proposal has been met with broad, bipartisan support among the American people.

A new poll released Thursday adds to the growing body of evidence showing that Americans like President Joe Biden’s plan to go big on infrastructure spending.
A New York Times-Survey Monkey poll conducted from April 5 to 11 found that nearly two thirds (64%) of respondents said they approve of the American Jobs Plan, Biden’s proposal to spend $2.3 trillion on a wide variety of issues, ranging from highways and bridges to green energy and child care. Democrats were nearly universal in their approval (97%), and independents were also enthusiastic (72%). Republicans were strongly negative, however, with 70% saying they disapproved.

President Biden’s $2.3 trillion infrastructure plan has yet to win over a single Republican in Congress, but it is broadly popular with voters nationwide, mirroring the dynamics of the $1.9 trillion economic aid bill that Mr. Biden signed into law last month.
The infrastructure proposal garners support from two in three Americans, and from seven in 10 independent voters, in new polling for The New York Times by the online research firm SurveyMonkey. Three in 10 Republican respondents support the plan, which features spending on roads, water pipes, the electrical grid, care for older and disabled Americans and a range of efforts to shift to low-carbon energy sources.
