New Haven schools chief apologizes for district s handling of racial slur case; we messed up Linda Lambeck FacebookTwitterEmail 1of3 2of3 3of3 NEW HAVEN Superintendent of Schools Iline Tracey has apologized to the school board and community for how the district handled an administrator’s use of racial slur at a city school this past school year. “We messed up,” said Tracey. “I am apologizing because I am hearing that staff and the community are hurting.” The apology came two hours into a meeting this week that began with 17 members of the public demanding that more be done to investigate not only decisions related to the reassignment of former Brennan-Rogers Principal Laura Roblee, but the aftermath, as well.

New Haven Superintendent Releases Old Memo Concerning Racist Language From Now-Demoted Principal

Pixabay The Superintendent of New Haven Schools released a memo from a city attorney this week that cited concerns about the handling of a principal’s use of the “n-word.” The memo was written weeks ago, but the release only came after public demands for more transparency. Roblee claimed she used the word once. An attorney consulted on the matter questioned if Roblee’s dishonesty about her repeated use of the “n-word” renders her fit to serve in any of the city’s public schools. The school board took the attorney’s recommendation to offer Roblee an ultimatum: take a transfer and pay cut, or be fired. Roblee took the transfer, but local ministers have since called for Roblee’s firing.
