Megan Hess and Shirley Koch, co-owners of Sunset Mesa Funeral Directors and Donor Services, intend to appeal their prison terms imposed on them for mail fraud in U.S District Court, reports the Montrose Daily Press. The City of Montrose will go to a Single-Stream Recycling Program effective immediately. The change will limit the type of recyclable plastics that are accepted. The city will collect only plastic items marked with 1, 2, 4, and 5 recycling symbols. Sand Creek Massacre descendant discusses History Colorado s new exhibit

The Sand Creek Massacre is the deadliest day in Colorado's history. On Nov. 29, 1864, a peaceful group of Cheyenne and Arapaho were attacked by U.S. troops despite being promised protection by the military. On that day, more than 230 indigenous women, children, and elders were slaughtered. Northern Arapaho tribal member and Carbondale resident Kate Collins’ great great grandmother survived the massacre. In a recent op-ed in the Sopris Sun, Collins writes about her ancestor and about the new History Colorado exhibit that commemorates the Sand Creek Massacre. For KVNF, Laura Palmisano brings us an interview with her.

Two women who were sexually assaulted and filmed by a male nurse while at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction are suing the hospital, reports the Denver Post. Wildfire mitigation will be coming to Grand Mesa, thanks to new federal funding. The Denver Post reports that Winter Park will see its earliest opening day… in its 82-year history.The price of health insurance in Colorado is expected to rise next year, the “cost hike” contradicts a promise made by the Polis Administration. The invasive Japanese Beetle was discovered in Grand Junction, over the summer. Adult beetles feed on more than 300 species of plants impacting the Western Slope's agricultural economy.
