A moral emergency : Faith leaders call on Cuomo to fund next phase of homeless housing

ALBANY More than 100 religious leaders around the state have penned a letter to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo calling for him to fund the next phase of his ambitious 2016 plan to build 20,000 units of supportive housing.
The letter will be delivered to Cuomo s Manhattan office Wednesday by Marc L. Greenberg, executive director of the Interfaith Assembly on Homelessness and Housing, who led the effort to gather signatures. Greenberg said in a phone interview with the Times Union that he plans to go to Cuomo s office with a shofar, the ram s horn used in the Jewish tradition as a blunt musical instrument. In this case, he intends for its piercing sound to be a call “to have empathy with those who are suffering, and to usher in a new year.
