Following the Maui wildfires, the Oregon Humane Society has partnered with other organizations and companies to help the pets that were displaced during the devastating event. According to OHS Media Relations and Communications Manager Laura Klink, Southwest Airlines delivered emergency food and other resources from Greater Good Charities to Maui early on Thursday. That same plane returned to the Portland International Airport on Friday, but this time it held more than 100 animals.
It had only been a few minutes, but Elisabeth Gauthier was falling in love. The 25-year-old Tigard resident knew Sunday afternoon when she made eye contact with Walter, a 10-year-old black and gray chihuahua at Northeast Portland’s Oregon Humane Society, that his mellow energy would perfectly match her other “backyard kids” – another dog, a goose and three ducks.
There were canines galore in downtown Portland Saturday morning for the 36th annual Doggie Dash, the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Oregon Humane Society.
Instead of running from Cruella through treacherous weather, 60 puppies were put on an airplane and flown almost 800 miles to find their own happy ending with the help of the Oregon Humane Society.
