Vaccine demand is nearing a tipping point. Within weeks, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation analysis, vaccine supply will outpace demand. So vaccine hesitancy will soon be the biggest obstacle to reaching herd immunity in the United States. Unfortunately, people of color, who have been hardest hit by the pandemic, are among the most skeptical of vaccines that could protect them. Willingness to get vaccinated is even lower among young people of color.

March 16, 2021 The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed the dire consequences of inequities in America’s health care. According to the COVID Tracking Project, African Americans die from COVID-19 at rates more than 1.5 times their share of the population, while Hispanics, Latinos, Native American and Alaskan Natives share of death and sickness is disproportionate to their population in the majority of states with sufficient data. In the next webinar of the College of Arts and Sciences’ (A&S) yearlong series, “Racism in America,” panelists will focus on the impact of racism on access to health care and health outcomes. The March 29, 7 p.m. event, held in partnership with Weill Cornell Medicine, the Cornell Center for Health Equity and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is free and open to the public; registration is required.

The incoming executive director of a global gay men s health nonprofit wants to make it more accessible to men who have sex with men. Andrew Spieldenner, who was recently named leader of the Oakland-based organization, wants to make MPact Global Action for Gay Men s Health and Rights three clicks away for GBTQ men who want to get involved in the fight against HIV. I would like to MPact to be the organization every gay, bisexual, trans, and queer man in the world is three clicks away from an organization they d find readily, be able to get resources from, and where we can tell the stories of people with HIV worldwide, Spieldenner said in a February 22 interview with the Bay Area Reporter. We want people to be able to build their own community groups, advocacy groups. If they want to start a book club, let s help!
