The government of Honduras in Central America announced the breakdown of “diplomatic relations” with the Taiwan region on Saturday, saying it will have no more official relations or contact with the island moving forward.
A few hours after Honduras announced to break off “diplomatic relations” with China’s Taiwan region, China and Honduras established diplomatic relations on Sunday with the Central American country recognizing Taiwan as an inalienable part of China’s territory – a decision standing on the right side of history that China highly appreciates.
China welcomed on Wednesday the latest remarks by Honduran President Xiomara Castro, who said her country is seeking to establish diplomatic relations with China. In response to this, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at a press conference on Wednesday that 181 countries around the world have established diplomatic relations with China on the basis of the one-China principle, which fully proved that establishing diplomatic relations with China is a correct general historical and political trend.
The negotiations between China and Ecuador on a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) have proceeded smoothly, Mao Ning, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, said on Wednesday during a press conference.
