Now that the Lathrop Police Department in River Islands is nearly completed, the city is facing a new question – what to put inside of the first purpose-built police facility in the city’s history.
On Monday the Lathrop City Council solved that problem by approving a purchase order for nearly $110,000 to outfit the state-of-the-art facility – which was designed by LDA Partners, the architectural firm behind the Lathrop Generations Center, Manteca Transit Center, and a number of San Joaquin County fire stations – with all the things that it needs to be operational and serve the needs of a growing community.
San Joaquin County has 22 set sites for testing, as well as popup sites that can be found on its website, http://www.sjready.org. There are 14 Stockton sites – including one at each of the four Stockton Unified School District high schools – and there are clinics in Lodi, Tracy, Manteca, Lathrop and Escalon.
“Our main goal is to mitigate the disease in the county,” Singson said. “Besides the fixed sites, we try to bring tests to those who need them and might not be able to get to them.”
The county website addresses the cost of testing at the top of the front page with this statement: “In California, if you have health insurance you are required to provide your health insurance information to be tested. You will not be charged a co-pay. Most health insurance plans will cover the full cost of testing, at no expense to you. If you don t have insurance, you will not be charged for the services provided.”

Lathrop Police Services will get more than one chance this week to make Christmas special for children in the community.
While Wednesday’s multiagency event at Target was only open to specific youth that were selected based on determined need, the drive-thru toy event on Friday, Dec. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lathrop Generations Center will be open to anybody in the community that wants to come down and participate.
According to Lathrop Police Chief Ryan Biedermann, it’s one of the events that deputies look forward to all year.
