The City of Lathrop’s longstanding goal of discharging highly-treated wastewater into the San Joaquin River could clear a major hurdle tonight.
When the Lathrop Planning Commission meets at 6 p.m. tonight they will consider a resolution that would affirm that the city’s surface water discharge capital improvement project is in line with the city’s existing general plan.
While it’s a relatively mundane agenda item – the city is required to do this with all capital improvement projects and the discharge proposal was only in its infancy when the last round of approvals was made – it denotes the progress of the proposal that Lathrop has long wanted to see come to fruition.

Looking to get involved in Lathrop?
There are currently two vacancies – one for the Parks and Recreation Commission and one for the Measure C Oversight Committee – that the City of Lathrop is attempting to fill early next month.
The positions are open to any adult Lathrop resident that is able to serve in the capacity that is needed.
A seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission became available last month when Minnie “Cotton” Diallo was sworn in as a member of the Lathrop City Council. Diallo, who had run for council in previous elections, credited her experience on the commission and her work within the gears of local government for preparing her to assume the duties of an elected official.
