Hardeep, 41, a resident of Buterla and a three-time councillor, will be facing BJP’s Sanjay Tandon and Congress's Manish Tewari. This is the first time that the SAD will contest the Lok Sabha polls in Chandigarh.
Banwarilal Purohit said he could not take up any special agenda for discussion as the model code of conduct was in place; the mayor’s actual intent was to discuss several issues “under the garb of a courtesy call”.
A candidate can spend Rs 75 lakh as part of the campaigning for the general elections this time. Chandigarh votes on June 1, while results will be declared on June 4.
Sources in the BJP stated that when it was discussed with the national party president as to when the nomination within the BJP is to be declared, the leader stated that "PM Modi will be personally discussing Chandigarh's seat".
