Boogaloo Bois with Military Training Plan to Overthrow Government

This story is part of an ongoing collaboration between ProPublica and FRONTLINE that includes an upcoming documentary. Hours after the attack on the Capitol ended, a group calling itself the Last Sons of Liberty posted a brief video to Parler, the social media platform, that appeared to show members of the organization directly participating in the uprising. Footage showed someone with a shaky smartphone charging past the metal barricades surrounding the building. Other clips show rioters physically battling with baton-wielding police on the white marble steps just outside the Capitol. Before Parler went offline its operations halted at least temporarily when Amazon refused to continue to host the network the Last Sons posted numerous statements indicating that group members had joined the mob that swarmed the Capitol and had no regrets about the chaos and violence that unfolded on Jan. 6. The Last Sons also did some quick math: The government had suffered only one fatality, U.

Corrections: Jan. 31, 2021 Jan. 30, 2021 ARTS & LEISURE A picture caption with an article last Sunday about the drama “The Dig” referred imprecisely to the helmet shown. It was a reconstruction of what the original Anglo-Saxon helmet might have looked like, not the original. An article on Jan. 17 about the Kids of Survival art collective omitted the name of a presenter of a workshop with Studio K.O.S. It was presented by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and Art Resources Transfer, not just the Walker Art Center. SUNDAY STYLES An article last Sunday about Robert Bigelow and his financing of research about afterlife experiences and paranormal events misstated his age. He is 76, not 75.

Okun: Dedicate Presidents Day to healing? Not this year | Columnists

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   On February 15, Presidents’ Day, Americans must sanitize the presidency. While custodial staff deep cleaned every nook and cranny of the White House before the Bidens moved in, after enduring four years of an authoritarian president injecting poison into the body politic, citizens also have a part to play in cleaning the presidency. I had hoped we could begin by dedicating Presidents’ Day to healing and reconciliation. In light of the violent insurrection at the U.S. capitol on January 6, that is not possible. Two months ago, a “Presidents’ Day of Healing and Reconciliation” promoting respectful dialogue seemed like a good idea. But that was before white, overwhelmingly male, domestic terrorists incited by Donald Trump, stormed the capitol. My dream had become a nightmare.

My Turn: Is it naïve to dedicate this Presidents Day to healing?

100 activists and caravan show up for Virginia s scaled-back Lobby Day

Print this article RICHMOND, Virginia About 100 gun rights activists showed up Monday in Virginia s capital city for Lobby Day despite heightened security measures that restricted their access to the Capitol building and to lawmakers. State officials and law enforcement agencies said they scaled back this year s activities following an FBI warning issued last week that armed protests could be planned outside of all 50 state capitol buildings in the wake of the deadly Jan. 6 siege at the U.S. Capitol. “There is a lot of [online] chatter about Saturday and Sunday, but we’re primarily focused on Monday,” Virginia public safety secretary Brian Moran said Friday after briefing General Assembly staffers. “In terms of credible threats we’re monitoring it.”
