Las Cruces Utilities Customers May Now Track Bill And Usage Online

By gh scott for lcu • 6 hours ago If you’re looking to track your water usage or you’re wondering if your bill is within budget, there’s now a website for that! As a Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) customer, you now have access to a new tool to manage your monthly bill while conserving water and natural gas. Appropriately named UtilityHawk, the recently launched web portal can be used on any device (smartphone, laptop, tablet, desktop computer etc.) to access information 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week. “The user-friendly web portal provides immediate access for our customers,” said Jose Provencio, LCU deputy director business services, “allowing them to have more control over their monthly water and natural gas consumption and in turn their pocketbook.” The UtilityHawk application turns “Big Data” into information customers understand and use to their benefit. You can also set your language preference to English or Spanish.

Las Cruces Utilities performs inspection of gas transmission lines

Las Cruces Utilities performs inspection of gas transmission lines Cassie McClure It might be hard to understand why a Las Cruces Utilities Corrosion Technician has what looks like ski poles, a rolled wire backpack, and is staring down at a small screen hanging on his chest especially if he’s walking through the mud produced by another truck’s trailer spraying water in front of him. It may look strange, but this is how LCU uses state-of-the-art equipment to make sure that large gas lines that feed into Las Cruces are safe and not corroding. Corrosion is caused by a chemical reaction between the metal and the type of soil surrounding its environment. It can be abated by using different metals, applying a protective coating to the pipes, or attaching a metal that takes the corrosion from the pipe, appropriately named a “Sacrificial Anode.”

Las Cruces contesting gas charges to prevent years of higher bills

LAS CRUCES - The city is contesting millions of dollars in penalties and higher gas bills, costs incurred during a winter storm in February that caused freezing temperatures and snow the same storm which crippled the Texas power grid. On Valentine s Day weekend, a winter storm brought snow and cold temperatures to the Mesilla Valley. The snow, icy conditions and freezing temperatures also brought loss of heat and power outages to Texas for days and left more than 110 dead. Residents in Las Cruces did not experience similar outages. But on Tuesday, the city-owned Las Cruces Utilities announced customers will begin to pay more on their monthly gas bills, beginning this month, to recover the cost of service for that single storm.

Water Conservation in Action with New Las Cruces Utilities NO-DES Truck

By cassie mcclure for lcu • 6 hours ago   With the help of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) WaterSMART (Sustain and Manage America s Resources for Tomorrow) project, the City of Las Cruces (City) was awarded a grant for 50 percent of the cost for one of its newest additions: the NO-DES truck. The NO-DES (Neutral Output Discharge Elimination System) truck and 20-foot trailer, which totaled $524,907.00, allows Las Cruces Utilities (LCU) to do much less hydrant flushing, which cuts down on service interruptions to customers and is a more sustainable way to solve water quality issues while conserving water.
