airBaltic receives first Airbus A220-300 aircraft planned for this year 2021-05-03 LETA/TBT Staff
RIGA - Latvian national airline airBaltic has welcomed the 26th Airbus A220-300 aircraft to its fleet in Riga today, Alise Briede, a representative of the airline, informed LETA.
The aircraft with registration number YL-AAZ is the first of seven Airbus A220-300 aircraft that airBaltic plans to receive this year. The airline has ordered a total of 50 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, but retains the opportunity to purchase another 30 aircraft of this type, explained Briede.
Martin Gauss, CEO of airBaltic, said that this year the airline is offering flights from the Baltic states on 96 routes, thus strengthening its position as the leading airline in the region.

Riga. Due to the historical negative impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, airBaltic group closed 2020 with a revenue of EUR 143 million, which was 72% less than the year before. The group’s net result was negative EUR 265 million. Despite the severe travel restrictions, airBaltic carried 1.34 million passengers.

We took a decision to permanently phase out Q400 and B737 aircraft and became a single aircraft type operator of the Airbus A220-300 two year ahead of the original plan.”

RIGA - The group of Latvia s airBaltic national carrier closed 2020 with EUR 142.6 million in turnover, down 72 percent from the year before, while its loss expanded 29 times on year to EUR 264.6 million, according to information released by the company.
The group s EBITDAR, or operating loss before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and restructuring or rent reached EUR 152.3 million in contrast to profit the year before.
The turnover of the group s parent Air Baltic Corporation shrank 73 percent from 2019 to EUR 137.915 million last year, and its loss grew 35 times to EUR 278.267 million/

Air Baltic posted a €202 million ($242 million) operating loss in 2020 amid the pandemic, swinging from a €27 million EBIT profit in the previous year.
Revenue at the Latvian carrier declined 72% to €143 million, as the number of passengers dropped to 1.34 million from 5 million in 2019.
The airline’s net loss increased 29-fold from €9 million in 2019 to €265 million, Air Baltic has disclosed.
