Kevin Strickland was exonerated in a 1978 triple murder, but under Missouri law, he is not eligible for any compensation from the state for the 43 years he spent behind bars one of the longest-standing wrongful convictions in the nation's history.
A Missouri man wrongfully convicted of a triple murder in 1978 and imprisoned for more than 42 years has been exonerated and released. Kevin Strickland, 62, has maintained his innocence since his arrest at age 18. He was sentenced in June 1979. Strickland said outside court:
Kevin Strickland is not eligible for compensation from Missouri after his 42 years in prison because his conviction was not overturned with DNA evidence.
