Almost two years ago, I said to Larry Hiatt: “when Gannett gets ready to sell the Morning Sun, call me and let’s put together a group and buy it,” bring it back from the verge of extinction, and once again make it the great community newspaper that we all grew up with.
In the nearly four years I’ve worked at the Morning Sun, I have seen a lot of changes. One of the most positive of those changes was when Larry Hiatt became publisher of the newspaper last year after playing a key role in acquiring it from former owner Gannett Co.
Just over a year after organizing the acquisition of the Morning Sun by local owners, Larry Hiatt will retire as publisher of this newspaper on Friday, following a journalism career spanning nearly seven decades.
