Updated: 11:50 AM CDT May 9, 2021 Linda Grantin The Birmingham Police Department last week made an arrest in connection with the May 2 shooting death of Eric Sledge Jr.Larry Denzel Rollins, 28, of Birmingham, was arrested on May 7 and booked into the Jefferson County jail on a murder charge. He was released the following day on a $100,000 bond. On May 2, detectives responded to the 1100 block of 20th Street South at 12:30 a.m. on a report of a person shot. Arriving officers found Sledge laying unresponsive in the middle of the road suffering from a gunshot wound. Sledge died at the hospital a short time later. Witnesses told police Sledge was walking with a group of people who had just been involved in a fight in the area when an unknown person fired shots at Sledge.

A suspect has been charged in the slaying of a Birmingham man following an altercation at a Five Points South bar.
Birmingham police on Monday announced the arrest of 28-year-old Larry Denzel Rollins. He is charged with murder in the May 2 shooting death of Eric Tyler Sledge Jr., a 27-year-old father.
The killing happened about 12:30 a.m. that Sunday in the Southside entertainment district. Officers responded to the 1100 block of 20th Street South after receiving reports of a shooting.
