Chicago has one of the widest all-cause mortality rate gaps between Blacks and whites in the top 30 largest cities in the country, according to a new study by some local researchers.
The Black mortality rate was 65% higher than the white rate from 2009 to 2018. Nationwide, it was 24% higher. City officials and other health stakeholders need data specific to their jurisdiction so they can make an evidence-informed decision so they can prioritize the right things, said Maureen Benjamins, a senior research fellow at Sinai Urban Health Institute.
