Falls council reset again | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com NEWTON FALLS For the second time this week, village council did not have a quorum of members to act on setting a date for a recall election for 4th Ward Councilwoman Sandra Breymaier. At an emergency meeting Wednesday, only two of the four council members attended. Three members are needed for a quorum. Council members John Baryak and Tesa Spletzer attended, while council members Breymaier and Adam Zimmerman did not. Councilman at-Large Tarry Alberini resigned effective immediately on Tuesday. Mayor Ken Kline told the more than 25 people at the emergency meeting that Breymaier notified him of health issues preventing her from attending, but he did not hear anything from Zimmerman.

Newton Falls council to meet on recall election | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com NEWTON FALLS Village council has scheduled a special meeting Friday to set the date for the recall election of 4th Ward Councilwoman Sandra Breymaier. Fourth Ward residents last month submitted a petition signed by more than 200 people seeking to recall Breymaier. Village clerk Kathy King last month accepted the petitions, which stayed with the clerk’s office for 20 days before being taken to the Trumbull County Board of Elections, where the signatures were reviewed and verified. Village manager David Lynch said at Monday’s meeting King picked up the petitions Thursday. Residents who attend village council meetings via Zoom and in person have made comments to Breymaier about her conduct at meetings and representation of the 4th Ward. She and other members of council and village officials often have been criticized by residents over decisions made on various pieces of legislation, including pay raises last November for village administrators.

Falls will consider a utility discount | News, Sports, Jobs

bcoupland@tribtoday.com NEWTON FALLS When village council returns for the new year, one item to be reviewed is whether a one-time discount on electricity can be provided for residents and businesses. Second Ward Councilman John Baryak this month sought unsuccessfully to place a resolution on council’s agenda to offer a one-time, 10 percent electric rate reduction for residents and businesses for December. “We can surely do something to help our citizens and all our customers during this pandemic. We need to help our people and our businesses. Can’t we give the people of Newton Falls something for Christmas, too? To brighten their hopes and everything else,” Baryak said.
