CGS-CIMB: MISC sell-off opens opportunity for investors to benefit from 2H21

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 4): The sell-off in MISC Bhd by foreign investors in the past months has given investors the opportunity to benefit from the likely recovery in tanker freight rates in the second half of 2021 (2H21), and MISC s Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) deliveries. In a note today, CGS-CIMB said possible reasons behind the foreign selling included the very weak tanker freight rates, market expectations of weak upcoming quarterly results, and because MISC s large proportion of long-term fixed charters did not make it an attractive recovery play story. Tanker freight rates have plunged to historic lows due to weak global crude refining demand as Covid-19 lockdowns and border closures continue in many parts of the world.
