Deer Tick honored ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill by covering “Cheap Sunglasses” on Wednesday at Newport Folk Festival. The performance came on the same day ZZ Top announced the death of the legendary band’s bassist, who was 72-years-old.
Rhode Island-born Deer Tick, who are longtime Newport regulars, returned to Fort Adams State Park to close out the sixth and final day of the Newport Folk Festival’s Folk On event. The set saw Vanessa Carlton come out for a collaborative performance of “In Our Time.”
