Gary’s big day
Today is a banner day for former Gov. Gary Herbert.
Reader Don Savage, a longtime friend of Herbert, tells “The Rundown” Herbert will receive two honorary degrees today from two different universities, a feat that may be a first.
This morning, Herbert speaks at commencement ceremonies for Dixie State University in St. George. Then later, he’ll be honored at Utah Valley University’s graduation.
While not in any way definitive, a cursory search did not turn up any other instances of one person being awarded multiple honorary degrees from different institutions on the same day.

Landon Copeland yelled several times during a disruptive Zoom appearance for his court hearing on several charges that include disorderly conduct and assaulting law enforcement officers during the riots on the U.S. Capitol on January 6.
The 33-year-old Utah man screamed obscenities at the judge, called a court official evil, and at one point loudly objected to a question asked during another defendant s hearing.
Protesters clash with police and security forces as they storm the U.S. Capitol in on January 6. Landon Copeland is accused of assaulting law enforcement officers during the riot.
Utah Offering Free Mobile Vaccination Clinics To Any Business Or Organization
Forty percent of all Utahns have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. State and health officials want to see that number increase. So, Gov. Spencer Cox said starting Thursday any business or organization can request a mobile vaccination clinic. “We will come to you and at no cost to your organization,” Cox said. He said they will set aside about 25,000 doses from next week’s allotment. Health officials reported 463 new cases Thursday. The state’s test positivity rate is now 3.5%. It’s risen steadily since last Saturday.
A Washington County man was arrested on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol in January while Congress was in the process of counting electoral votes, according to court documents.
