Charles Chappell / CCImages.PhotoShelter.com Berryville’s Landon Chester has been selected as a member of the 2021 Arkansas High School Coaches Association All Star basketball team. Chester was named a member of the West team’s All-Star roster. Although the All-Star game itself was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, making the roster is still an impressive achievement. “That’s outstanding,” Berryville coach Brent Compton said. “I’ve had a few of my guys make it over the years. I don’t know the exact count, but it’s a pretty short list. It’s very prestigious to make the All-Star game.”

Well, mission accomplished. Berryville scored the first 17 points of the second half to turn a close game into a rout and went on to a 55-34 victory over Ozark on Thursday, March 4, in the first round of the 4A North regional tournament at the Hillbilly Activity Center. The win clinched a state tournament bid for the Bobcats, who went on to finish fourth in the regional. Berryville will face Southside Batesville at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 9, in Morrilton.

High School Sports: Bobcats maintain focus, add 2 more wins (2/2/21)

Tuesday, February 2, 2021 With a 17-3 record in early February, some high school basketball teams might already be dreaming about postseason success. But Berryville coach Brent Compton said his Bobcats are still firmly focused on what’s immediately in front of them. “We still have work to do to win our side of this league,” Compton said, referring to the 4A-1 East. “I’m just taking it one game at a time. We talk about after every game, our next game’s the most important.” The Bobcats kept themselves in the driver’s seat of the division race with a pair of victories last week. Berryville won 67-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at Gravette, then topped Shiloh Christian 65-59 last Friday night at Bobcat Arena.

High School Sports: Two out of three: Berryville tops Huntsville, pulls out OT win at Harrison (1/21/21)

Thursday, January 21, 2021 Berryville junior center Weston Teague shoots from point-blank range in the Bobcats’ victory over Huntsville on Jan. 12. Charles Chappell / CCImages.PhotoShelter.com Like every other coach, Brent Compton would love to win every game. But given the challenge Compton’s Bobcats faced last week, two out of three ain’t bad. Playing three conference games in five days, Berryville won the first two at home against Huntsville and in overtime on the road at Harrison before losing at Farmington on Saturday night in a makeup game that originally was scheduled for Dec. 18. “Of course, we want to win them all,” Compton said. “But two out of three, I thought if we could do that, we’d still be in really good shape in the league. And of course, we’re still leading (the 4A-1 East). So not a bad week against really good competition.”
