大甲警分局所轄大甲、大安、外埔及后里等區幅員遼闊，近來部分偏僻及未設置交通號誌的路段，晚間都會出現閃著紅、藍警示燈設施，這些燈乍看像是道路施工警示燈，路段但設置地點卻都未施工。
大甲警分局指出，這是分局為有效降低交通事故發生，在易肇事設置的夜間爆閃警示燈，藉以提醒用路人行經時減速慢行，尤其紅、藍燈光在夜裡閃爍，遠看就像警方路檢，亦可有效防範夜間犯罪，警示效果十足，交通事故肇事率也降低不少。
根據大甲警方統計，自裝設夜間警示爆閃燈後今年上半年夜間（18時至06時）發生交通事故501件，較去年同期發生569件，減少68件，交通事故降低11.95％，成效顯著。爆閃式警示燈發揮作用，夜間有效提醒用路人行經各路段、路口時要減速慢行，並注意路況，能完全達到警示嚇阻的效果，充分扮演夜間「沉默守�
