A militant multi-sectoral group is outraged after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved petitions to increase fares collected by two major railway systems in Metro Manila this without mention of any public consultation.
"We have anticipated that there will be increased demand in public transportation, hence the opening of more routes to meet that demand," LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III said.
The LTFRB said the decision was made in response to the clamor of public utility vehicle operators impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and to provide them financial relief amidst the continued rise of fuel prices and the effect of global inflation.
According to LTFRB Memorandum Circular No. 2022-070 sent to reporters Monday afternoon, only Public Utility Buses and Modern Public Utility Jeepneys Class 2 will be allowed to have standing passengers.
