The bone-chilling cold in the country s northern and north-eastern region that is causing immense public sufferings may prolong as the ongoing cold wave may continue.
A bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) yesterday said, Mild cold wave is sweeping over the regions of Dinajpur, Sayedpur, Nilphamari, Bogura, Naogaon and Srimangal. It may continue.
The girl was gang-raped in the house at night, said police.
Acting on information from locals, police raided the house yesterday noon, detained the alleged rapists and rescued the victim. However, the owner of the house managed to flee.
The OC said the girl would be sent to a hospital for medical examinations. Her family members went to the police station to file a case in this regard.
RAPIST GETS 42YRS IN JAIL
A Joypurhat court yesterday sentenced an absconding accused to jail for 42 years for raping a teenage girl, who later died by suicide to escape social stigma, in Joypurhat Sadar upazila in 2012.

Two people were held in connection with the gang-rape of a teenager in Lalmonirhat s Sadar upazila this afternoon.
The victim was rescued and sent to the police station this noon, said Lalmonirhat Police Station s officer-in-charge (OC) Shaha Alam.
The detainees are Atiqul Islam Atiq and Nirmal Chandra of Kurigram s Rajarhat upazila.
The girl was gang-raped in a house near the toll plaza of Teesta Road Bridge. On receiving information from locals, police raided the house on Thursday noon and rescued the girl and arrested the two alleged rapists.

Extreme cold in Kurigram and Lalmonirhat over the past several days has been forcing farmers and agricultural workers to stay inside their homes.
The cold has brought day-to-day activities to an almost standstill in the region, especially in villages along the Brahmaputra, Teesta, Dudhkumar and Dharla rivers as well as in river islands or chars.
Unable to work out in the cold, low-income daily wage earners including agricultural workers, who cannot afford to buy warm clothes, have been suffering the most.
It may abate in some more places, said the bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department. Night temperature may rise slightly and day temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, it added.
The Met office forecast for 24 hours was released at 6:00pm yesterday. Weather may remain dry, with temporary partly cloudy skies over the country. Moderate to thick fog may occur at places over the country s river basins and light to moderate fog may occur at places elsewhere over the country during midnight to morning, it added.
In the next 72 hours, the bulletin forecast that the temperature may rise further.
