Youth found dead at jute field in Lalmonirhat Star Digital Report Star Digital Report The body of an unidentified youth has been recovered from a jute field in Budhar Banshertal area of Mahendranagar union in Lalmonirhat Sadar upazila. On information, police recovered the body yesterday morning, reports our correspondent quoting Shah Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station. A bag full of clothes was recovered from the spot, said the OC. He said no injury mark was found on the body. The man might have been strangled to death, the OC said, adding that the body was sent to the morgue of Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Locals rescued the injured couple and admitted them at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, the police official added.

IFJ 21 April 2021 Bangladesh: Journalist from Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha assaulted and tortured Jahangir Alam Shahin, a district correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha was assaulted and tortured by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Kulaghat, Lalmonirhat district, while trying to get information regarding incidents of drug smuggling in the area. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) demands a thorough investigation into the assault. Journalist Jahangir Alam Shahin and his friend Sohag Islam were attacked by BGB men with sticks on April 15. They sustained injuries to their eyes, necks and bodies when they arrived in the Kulaghat area to report on drug smuggling.

The detainee, Ansar Ali (46), is a shopkeeper in Shahitari area of Lalmonirhat municipality, reports our local correspondent quoting Shaha Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station. Ansar allegedly offered the three girls, aged 8-10, ice cream and took them to his house in absence of his wife, the OC said. As the culprit was in the act, one of the victims managed to escape, and ran out of the house crying for help, the OC said, adding that locals then rescued the other children and informed police.
